Symbolism

SHIELD

The colors of the shield, green and white, are familiar colors to the State of Maine, representing the snowy winters and the pine forests. The chevronelle colors replicate the stack colors of the Military Sealift Command's fleet and signify that USNS MILLINOCKET is part of that fleet. The chevron rompu is dark blue, a color taken from the field color of the State of Maine's flag. The shape alludes to the catamaran hulls of the Joint High Speed Vessels. The white Spearhead represents speed and also signifies that USNS MILLINOCKET is one of the "Spearhead Class" of High Speed Vessels. The pine needle shaped chief honors the State of Maine as the Pine Tree State.

CREST

The background image is familiar to the area. Mount Katahdin is the tallest peak in the State of Maine and also is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The rising sun recalls the image of the town seal. The crossed axes describe the teamwork it took to build the town.

SUPPORTERS

The swords symbolize cooperation and teamwork and the JHSV's capability to transport both U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps personnel and their military vehicles.

MOTTO

Red is the color signifying strength, boldness and hardiness, reflective of the motto, "LABOR INGENIUM PERSEVERANTIA," which translates to "Hard Work, Ingenuity and Perseverance."
